Boiler Replacement from Duval Heating. Have you been thinking about a boiler replacement soon?
There are a few things you need to know.
The days of a straightforward boiler replacement are long gone.
Everything must comply with current gas and building regulations, not that they were not before.
It’s just that they are a little more involved today.
Let me explain.
Central heating systems must now have some form of thermostat installed.
They must comply with the current boiler plus regulation.
This only applies to the current boiler replacement, if your current system is not fitted with a thermostat that’s ok.
It’s only when you come to update or replace your boiler that a thermostat must be installed.
All combination boiler replacements be it LPG or natural gas must now have a thermostat installed.
This also applies to all mobile homes.
The thermostat cannot be just a standard type, it must be what is called a load compensation thermostat.
There are a few ways that this can be achieved.
Some smart thermostats comply but not all of them, so you must check to see if the one you choose complies.
Different thermostat makers now produce wireless versions that comply with the boiler plus regulation.
System and heat only boilers can have a standard thermostat fitted, but, best practice is to use a load compensation thermostat.
It’s all about saving on energy, ensuring the boiler is working to its optime efficiency.
Every boiler replacement must now be fitted with an inline filter on the return pipe of the new boiler.
There are many different filters to choose from, but Magnaclean seems to be the most popular one.
The whole system needs to be flushed out and cleaned, this removes any debris within.
Once the system is clean, inhibitors must be added to stop the build-up of sludge as well as protecting the new boiler.
Most new boilers now come with long warranties, some even up to twelve years.
What many people don’t realise is that to keep the warranty valid, the boiler must be without fail, service each year.
Every new boiler is supplied with a benchmark book.
This book is used by the boiler installer to register the boiler details in, as well as the yearly service.
All installers must enter their full business details, sign and date it, otherwise, the boiler has no warranty.
The book is classed as a legal document and must be filled in by the installer.
If the installer fails to complete the benchmark book the warranty is void.
The same applies if the installer is not gas safe registered.
Now, the boiler replacement must, by law be registered with gas safe, this ensures that the installation complies with all regulations.
Only registered gas engineers can do this. It’s against the law to install your own boiler and get a registered boiler engineer.
Both parties could be prosecuted with heavy penalties.
I do hope this information has given you a little insight into what a boiler replacement now involves.
